Emma's broad general common law practice focusses on Employment,
Personal Injury, Inquests and Public Law. She acts in both a
representative and advisory capacity and regularly appears before
District Judges, Circuit Judges, Masters, High Court Judges,
Coroners and Employment Tribunals.
Employment
Emma acts for both Claimants and Respondents and represents a
broad range of clients, from recruitment companies, commercial
organisations and individuals in the private sector to local
authorities and NHS trusts in the public sector.
Emma has experience in all areas of employment law including
unfair dismissal, race, age, disability and sex discrimination
(including harassment cases), unlawful deduction from wages claims,
breach of contract and wrongful dismissal. She has been
instructed in the High Court on behalf of companies and individuals
in cases involving breach of covenants in restraint of trade.
Personal Injury
Emma acts for both Claimants and Defendants and she acts in
employers' liability and occupiers' liability claims as well as
general negligence actions. She has experience of stress at
work claims. Emma accepts instructions on a CFA basis.
Inquests
Clients include insurers as well as local authorities.
Emma has experience of inquests following road traffic accidents as
well as inquests involving potential findings of neglect.
Public Law
Emma has been instructed in various Public Law cases, including
instruction on the Inquiry's team on the Baha Mousa Public Inquiry,
Election Law work and advising pro bono on proposed Judicial Review
actions.
Emma has experience of Mental Capacity issues and the Mental
Capacity Act, providing training and seminars for local authorities
and medico-legal societies.
Other areas of experience
Emma's practice also covers general insurance work including
cases involving allegations of fraud, consumer credit, general
civil litigation and costs.
