Inquests in to the 7/7 London Bombings Opens

The inquests into the 52 deaths caused by the bombs on 7th July 2005 have opened. The bombs were detonated on an eastbound Circle line train between Liverpool Street and Aldgate, on a westbound Circle line train between Edgware Road and Paddington, on a westbound Piccaddily line train between King's Cross and Russell Square and on the Number 30 bus in Tavistock Square. The Coroner, Lady Justice Hallett, will hear evidence concerning the immediate aftermath of the explosions but will also investigate issues relating to the emergency response on 7th July 2005 as well as alleged intelligence failings by the Security Service, the Metropolitan Police Service and West Yorkshire Police. The hearings are likely to be held for approximately 5 months, evidence will be heard from approximately 300 witnesses and there are over 90 interesed persons and 16 separate legal teams participating in the inquests which are being held in the Royal Courts of Justice.
