Norwich student pursues £2m damages claim against former landlord
18 November 2010
James Laughland succeeds in a contested High Court application
to obtain evidence from an expert in human behaviour in response to
fire. Acting for the Defendant, Michael Billings, on instructions
from Kennedys LLP James successfully argued that the evidence
suggested that the Claimant may not have remained in her room
throughout the events in question. The Claimant is suing the
Defendant for up to £2m having sustained extremely serious burns in
a house fire at a property of which he was the landlord. The
Defendant's insurers have so far refused to indemnify the
Defendant, who was imprisoned following a prosecution for health
& safety offences arising from this incident.
